Our latest domestic CCTV drain survey attracted an audience........

We visited a domestic property in Leicester yesterday to investigate rodent activity that had been ongoing for a number on months.

A domestic CCTV drain survey was initially carried out to identify the structural condition of the pipe, connections (which were tested to see if they were live) and any evidence of rodents pulling soil/stone into the drain.

A smoke test was then carried out to establish if there were any points within the system that had holes/gaps, which the smoke would escape.

From identifying that the rodents were entering/exiting from an area near the house from CCTV surveying, this is where the initial smoke testing was carried out.

The overall findings were that rodents were exiting the drain from a hole in the pipe near a kitchen gully. This gully is now to be removed, wit the damaged section of pipe to be replaced.

Due to the rodents entering the system from the main sewer, we have also recommended that a non-return rat prevention device is fitted in the last manhole at the property. This will allow water to flow through, however prevent rodents travelling up the system.

Overall, the end result is that we have located and solved the issues of rodents escaping the system, repaired the broken section of drain and looked at future proofing the issue by installing a rat prevention device. The client is extremely satisfied as they no longer need to worry about rodents entering the house and surrounding area.
